2013 Reading Challenge & Welcome To My Book Blog

A few years ago I learned about a “12 in 12” reading challenge. If it’s not obvious what that is, it’s a challenge where readers attempt to read 12 books in the 12 months of that year. Back in 2011 I decided to try it but didn’t really think that 12 books in a whole year was a very big challenge for a book lover so I decided to do 24 in 12. I realize 24 books in a year may still not sound like a very big number for many book lovers but for me and my life at the time 24 seemed like a great number, big enough that I would be proud of the accomplishment, but small enough that it was still attainable.

I was thrilled when, by the end of 2011, I had read 25 books. A total of 9,684 pages. It had been a busy year and I still surpassed my goal.

This year I’m going to try it again but I’m upping the number again to 36. I’m sure I can do it, and I’m already off to a pretty good start.

I’ll be posting monthly progress reports on this blog, listing the books I’ve read that month and keeping track of my overall number of books read that year. I plan/hope to start doing book reviews as well. Mainly this blog is just a place for me to ramble about books whenever the urge strikes.

Welcome to my book blog.

  1. Good for you! I’m doing 52 in 52 and what I have quickly discovered – if I start a book, and it is not capturing my attention – it’s gone. I want to read AND enjoy, and am giving myself permission to call it a miss and move on if I don’t love it. Good luck!

    • That’s awesome! I wanted to do 52 in 52 but didn’t think I would realistically pull it off. Someday though. Maybe that will even be my next years goal 🙂 Thanks for reading, and for the comment. 🙂

  2. Congratulations on setting your goal! I also love books, especially old books and children’s books. My youngest son and I have set our reading goals for this year and it is something to be proud of. He loves writing them down or checking them off so he’s reading and obtaining a sense of accomplishment at the same time. Good luck with your 2013 goal! JW

    • I love “meeting” fellow book lovers 🙂 I think that’s so great your son loves to read. My daughter does too but she’s in kindergarten and just learning. I hope she keeps her love of books for her entire life, and your son does too!
